Under the contract, Kentz’s Construction Business Unit will provide all structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and piping (SMEIP) construction services associated with the coal processing and handling plant, crusher, stackers, reclaimers and conveyors.

One of the largest coal mining operations on the African continent, the project is a progress for the mining sector in sub-Saharan Africa, the company said.

Kentz received Phase 1 contract in 2009 of the Moatize coal processing plant and significant infrastructure developments were made to develop the production of coal products in Mozambique.

Kentz Africa regional managing director Carl Dyer said, "The award of this strategic project shows the confidence Vale has in Kentz for delivering projects in Mozambique."
