These associations, which represent over 1,000 corporate members from power generation industries, issued a joint call in support of the upcoming Energy Bill.

They appealed for furthering of a low-carbon electricity generation mix and flagged the significance of swift progression of the bill for investor certainty.

In a letter copied to Chancellor George Osborne and Prime Minister David Cameron, the three associations requested the ministers to agree on a legally binding decarburization target for electricity generation.

A reference to the objective to predominantly decarbonize the power sector by 2030 in the Energy Bill would reassure the potential investors by lowering political risk, they noted.

The letter, which asks for Royal Assent as early as possible in 2013, was also copied to Deputy Prime Minister, Business Secretary, and Minister of State at the Cabinet Office.

Osborne, Cameron and Nick Clegg are due to discuss the upcoming Energy Bill at a meeting later this week.
