The new offshore pipeline will be developed to connect the Heidelberg oil discovery, which is located on Green Canyon Blocks 816, 859, 860 and 903 in the deepwater of Gulf of Mexico, with an unnamed existing pipeline.
The 54.7km long and 20in wide Heidelberg lateral pipeline will start from Green Canyon block 860 which is about 321km southwest of New Orleans and in 5,300ft of water.
Enbridge Gas Pipelines president Leon Zupan said the Heidelberg pipeline is an investment opportunity for the company.
"It also furthers our objective of diversifying our offshore business to include facilities that support the substantial crude oil discoveries in the deepwater of the US Gulf Coast," Zupan added.
The new offshore pipeline is expected to begin services by 2016.
Anadarko is the operator of Heidelberg oil field with 44.25% interest, whereas Eni and Apache Deepwater own 12.5% each. StatoilHydro holds 12% interest while ExxonMobil and Cobalt possess 9.375% interest each.
