The project, a 90-turbine expansion to the adjacent 100MW Snowtown wind farm owned by Trust Power, is being undertaken in partnership with Siemens Australia.

Siemens will provide the turbines for the wind farm, which is expected to generate power in October 2013. The plant is projected to reach full capacity in the fourth quarter of 2014.

After the project’s completion, the combined capacity from the two Snowtown sites is estimated to be 371MW from 137 turbines.

TrustPower CEO Vince Hawksworth had remarked in an earlier press release, "The wind farm will be built with the most advanced renewable energy technology on the market."

Siemens Energy head David Pryke added, ""The wind technology chosen for the project is ideally suited to the Snowtown II site, featuring state-of-the-art gearless drive systems and highly efficient rotor blades allowing us to maximise the delivery of reliable renewable energy from this project."
