The UTE Mauá 3 plant will be constructed for Amazonas Distribuidora de Energia, a unit of Brazilian electrical company Eletrobrás.

The facility’s construction will be lead by Construtora Andrade Gutierrez.

Andrade and Siemens will supply the natural gas-fired power station in two phases – a simple cycle plant, which would go online in 2014, will be constructed in the first phase.

This construction is expected to support the increased power demand during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Soccer games, and further growth in the region.

The combined cycle conversion will follow as second phase of the power plant construction.

For this project, the company will deliver the engineered power island, including three SGen6-1000A generators, two SGT6-5000F gas turbines, one SST6-5000 steam turbine, and the SPPA-T3000 instrumentation and control system.

In addition, Siemens will lead the commissioning of the plant as well as provide technical field assistance during erection and construction.

Construtora Andrade Gutierrez energy president Flavio Barra said, "Manaus will be the first of a series of thermal power plants necessary in Brazil. Working in conjunction with a company such as Siemens will make this project a success for both companies and for Brazil."
