The power company is looking to implement a host of transmission projects to cater to the Indian state’s power evacuation needs.

OPTCL chairman and MD DK Singh was quoted by Business Standard as saying that the firm is in advanced stage of negotiations with MCL and PGCIL for the joint venture projects.

"There will be two separate JV entities. While OPTCL will hold 50 per cent stake in each of the JVs, the residual 50 per cent equity will be held by either PGCIL or MCL," Singh added.

The company needs to implement INR50bn transmission projects during the 12th Plan period (2012-17). In this connection, OPTCL is partnering with central PSUs for taking up these projects.

The Odisha government has signed memorandum of understanding with 29 independent power producers with a generation capacity of about 37,000MW, with the state share at 6,300MW.

The state needed transmission capacity of 19,500MVA to evacuate the surplus power generated by these independent power producers.
