Itron’s smart meters are part of CenterPoint Energy’s smart grid initiative which aims at supporting improvements in electric reliability and power restoration.
After this roll-out, which began in March 2009, the company said it is now electronically reading all meters daily at a 99.5% accuracy rate.
The Houston-area consumers now also have 15-minute interval access to their energy data from the Smart Meter Texas online web portal, Itron said.
CenterPoint Energy grid and market operations senior vice president Kenny Mercado noted the successful deployment of smart meters.
"Not only have we had compliments from our customers and the Public Utility Commission of Texas, we’ve also had compliments from the Department of Energy," Mercado said.
