The company is hopeful of developing a 133 projects over the said period to meet its desired production targets; the planned projects however remain subject to environmental and forestry clearance, reported the Hindu BusinessLine

Coal India’s plans are part of the country’s twelfth five year plan that runs from 2012 to 2017.

Outlining its success over the previous five year plan that ended in 2012, the company said that it had implemented 147 projects in the period with 80 of them securing both environmental and forestry clearances.

The projects are projected to generate a cummulative 437.08 million tonnes of coal a per annum.

Coal India will increase its output by 228.67 million tons in the 2012-2013 financial year with the implementation of 100 projects.

The miners annual report outlined that the demand for coal is estimated at 980.5 million tonnes by 2016-17 with indigenous availability is projected at a maximum of 795 million tonnes.
