The two blocks SL-08A and SL-08B covering 5,500km2 are located between 120km and 180km southwest of the capital of Freetown have average water depths from 1,500m to 3,000m.

Chevron Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production president Ali Moshiri said, "We have a strong regional interest in the geology, and we look forward to applying our technical expertise to this emerging trend."
Under the contract, Chevron will own 55% in the blocks and will be the operator whereas Noble Energy will hold 30% and Odye will have 15% interest in the blocks before a final decision is made regarding the participation of Sierra Leone National Oil Company optional for 15% interest.
