Under the agreement, Yamal LNG will employ BASF’s Oase technology to filter carbon dioxide from natural gas which is an important step for the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Novatek deputy chairman AM Fridman said, "The agreement with BASF is signed full conformity with the project implementation schedule and is another important step towards the final investment decision on the Yamal LNG project."
Total LNG expert Christof Thoma said BASF’s technology is used in a number of LNG plants across the world.
"The application of this technology in an Arctic LNG project is well justified," Thoma added.
BASF global gas treatment business Intermediates division head Andreas Northemann said, "BASF’s Oase technology has proven its robustness and flexibility under extreme conditions, whether climatic or technical."
The Russian government approved Yamal LNG project is aimed at exploring, exploiting natural gas reserves in the Yamal Peninsula and bringing it to the markets.
