The New Mexico state government, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization of Japan, the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, and the Los Alamos National Laboratory have collaborated for this project.
Los Alamos’ $52m smart grid project, which would provide power from a solar panel system to 2,000 homes in the county, will test how to smoothly integrate renewable energy onto the grid.
Kyocera Solar Energy Group vice president and general manager Tatsumi Maeda said, "This smart house project was established to demonstrate the next generation of energy management by using the newest technologies."
The project is located at three sites in Albuquerque and Los Alamos. Kyocera said it is participating in only two – the Smart-Grid Demonstration and the Smart House Demonstration in Los Alamos.
The Smart House Demonstration has a hybrid energy management system, while the Smart-Grid Demonstration comprised of a power supply micro-grid.
