The plant personnel and supplemental workers will perform maintenance activities during the outage.
In addition, they will replace nearly one-third of the reactor’s fuel to ensure the unit runs efficiently and safely for another two-year cycle.
For this planned work, the station intends to utilize the expertise of over 2,200 additional workers, many of whom travel to the township from outside area.
Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station site vice president Garey Stathes highlighted that for an outage, this is the largest number of supplemental workers hired in recent years.
"We are proud of our history of safe and efficient refueling outages, and it wouldn’t be possible without support from our neighbors in York, Lancaster and Harford County," Stathes added.
Technicians will replace the reactor’s low pressure turbines with new, high-efficiency components.
The two boiling water reactors of the Peach Bottom power plant together produce over 2,200Mw of electricity, enough to power about two million homes in the area.
