The company is drilling the Heron South-1 well to determine the productivity of the Elang-Plover reservoir and the gas composition.
The well is planned to be drilled to at least 4,230mSS or the gas water contact and the drilling program is expected to take almost 60 days to complete.
MEO CEO and MD Jürgen Hendrich said the company has partnered with Eni for a safe and successful drilling program.
"Since Heron-2 discovered gas in early 2008, MEO has been working towards appraisal of this discovery. Heron is potentially a very significant gas resource," Hendrich added.
MEO’s assessment of the prospective resources in the Greater Heron structure assumes that it is filled to the structural spill point mapped by MEO (4,325mSS).
