The Gallatin Fossil Plant located in Tennessee, US has four coal-fired generating units and eight combustion turbines, and it consumes about 13,000 tons of coal to produce electricity to meet the power demands of around 300,000 homes.

TVA will install four scrubbers and a catalytic reduction system to reduce up to 95% of the harmful gases emitted from coal burning, reports The Tennessean.

The upgrade work at the coal-fired plant is expected to be completed by 2017.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s new rule known as Utility MACT will further cut the permissible emission limits of harmful gases from coal-fired plants and will be implemented in 2016.
