The commissioning takes the company’s total generation capacity to 3,205MW, which includes 3,120MW of thermal capacity and 85MW of renewable energy based capacity.

Claimed to be the largest integrated power plant and coal mining project in the world, the Sasan UMPP is a pit-head coal-based power plant, and has been allocated three captive coal mine blocks, Moher, Moher Amlori extension and Chhatrasal.

Coal production has already started from the 20MTPA Moher and Moher-Amlohri mines.

The first 660MW unit started power generation in March this year, while the remaining four units are under an advanced stage of construction, and are expected to be commissioned over the next few months.
