Under the terms of a seven-year PPA that began on 1 January 2012, the company is also providing 200MW of capacity and energy from Oneta Energy Center to SPS.

Using natural gas produced in Oklahoma, the Oneta Energy Center, a combined-cycle power plant is capable of producing 1,134 MW of electricity, the company said.

Calpine Energy Services chief operating officer Thad Hill said the company is pleased to build on its customer relationship with SPS.

"This PPA provides SPS dependable, economical and environmentally responsible generation to help meet their needs while continuing to demonstrate the value of Calpine’s broader Southeast fleet," said Hill.

The agreement between Calpine and SPS is subject to approval from the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
