The two substations located at Solapur and Mauda will assist the transmission of electricity to be generated from the new power plants being constructed in the region.

ABB Local Division manager and Power Systems head N Venu said these substations will help make more power available to meet growing demand for electricity in the region and will improve the reliability and efficiency of the transmission grid.

"The substations we are supplying will be equipped with the latest IEC 61850 substation automation system to facilitate open communication between the numerous control and protection devices within the substation and beyond," Venu said.

The substation located at Solapur will use 17 bays of 400kV and 14 bays of 132kV whereas the substation of Mauda will consist of 12 bays of 400kV and 8 bays of 132kV.

ABB will design, engineer, supply, install, commission and complete all the civil works associated with the substations.

The company will also employ an IEC 61850 substation automation system which will aid in open communication between the numerous control and protection devices within the substation and outside.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2016.
