Australia Pacific LNG awarded two contracts for A$450m ($453m) gas gathering system in Central Queensland and a $350m deal for water treatment facilities at three areas in the state.

The two projects from part of Australia Pacific LNG’s coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project.

Leighton Contractors managing director Craig Laslett said, "At peak production it is anticipated Leighton Contractors will employ approximately 375 people on the gas gathering project and a further 580 people on the water treatment facilities, adding to the 1,800 people we employ in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin through our coal mining operations."

The gas gathering system works cover the installation, reinstatement and testing of about 1,220km poly welded pipeline, 1,730km fibre optic and power cables, and well head equipment.

Work for the gas gathering system will begin now with completion slated for mid 2015.

Leighton Contractors also revealed it has secured $93m engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Ichthys project onshore LNG temporary site facilities in the Northern Territory.

The deal includes the construction of temporary buildings, temporary utilities and temporary civil works at Blaydin Point, Darwin.

Contract has been awarded by JKC Australia LNG joint venture, delivering the project on behalf of the Ichthys Joint Venture.

Leighton said the engineer and procurement stage is now underway, with construction on facilities works to begin by the end of the year and completion scheduled in March 2014.
