The restart of unit 1 follows upgrades to an electrical system on the non-nuclear side of the power plant.

The operators turned off the Limerick unit 1 on 19 April 2012 when an electrical malfunction caused the facility’s generator cooling pump to shut down.

With both units at full power, the facility will have the capacity to generate enough carbon-free electricity for about two million homes.
