The plan is to expand the number of meters, for which EPS needs additional funding, after which the date will be announced for the installation of new meters.

EPS has not announced the total value of the project, though it is expected to be a billion euro investment to be completed in ten years for the replacement of 3.5 million smart meters, according to Serbia-energy.com.

The company has already secured a EUR80m loan from EBRD for the installation of 2,50,000 modern units in five municipalities under the first phase.

New smart grid units will be installed in the cities of Novi Pazar, Vrbas, Krnjaca, Velika Plana and Vranje as a pilot project.

Several multinational firms have showed interest in the project and are targeting partnerships with local companies.
