The company signed the first agreement with AES Red Oak, an 832MW combined cycle gas turbine plant located in New Jersey, to Energy Capital Partners.
The company also signed a deal to sell AES Ironwood, a 705MW CCGT plant located in Pennsylvania, to PPL Generation, a wholly owned subsidiary of PPL Corporation.
AES has also completed the previously announced sale of AES Energia Cartagena, a 1,199MW CCGT plant in Spain, to GDF Suez International Holdings.
AES received a total of $463m for its 100% interest in Red Oak and Ironwood and 80 % of its interest in Cartagena.
The transactions are subject to necessary regulatory approvals.
