The well is being drilled by the Atwood Beacon jack-up rig to a depth of 6,500m to test the Turonian geologic zone, a prolific producing zone offshore West Africa and Brazil.

CGX Energy president and CEO Stephen Hermeston said the Jaguar-1 well will be the deepest well drilled to date in the Guyana Suriname basin.

The Georgetown PPL is operated by Repsol Exploracion with a 15% interest and other partners in the license are YPF Guyana (30%), Tullow Oil (30%) and CGX Resources (25%).
