DOE has taken a step to spur manufacturing of SMRs in the country and it will establish cost-shared agreements with private industry to support the design, licensing and manufacturing of the SMRs.
B&W said its reactor is designed to be passively safe, and extensive testing on a prototype is beginning at an integrated system test facility to verify the reactor’s design and safety performance.
Data collected from the testing program will be used to validate the design and support licensing activities with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the company said.
