Under the contract, First Solar will provide EPC services using advanced thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules for the Imperial Solar Energy Center South project.

The solar generating facility will be located on about 950 acres in the southern part of Imperial County.

The proposed ground-mounted PV solar power generating system will have a capacity of about 130MW.

Construction on the facility is expected to commence in late 2011, with commercial operation in 2014.

When operating at peak times, the PV project will generate enough electricity to meet the needs of at least 44,000 California homes.

San Diego Gas & Electric will buy the electricity generated by the project, through a 25-year power-purchase agreement.

Tenaska Solar Ventures will manage the project for CSOLAR IV South, which will develop, own and operate the project.
