Currently, Brazil has two nuclear plants in operation which includes the 657MW Angra I and 1350MW Angra II located at the Southern coast of Rio de Janeiro state.

Construction at the nation’s third nuclear plant is still underway; the 1,300MW Angra III nuclear plant will commence operations in 2015.

Construction of the four new nuclear plants will begin only after a thorough security revision of the two plants currently in operation, reports Xinhua.

Brazil checked the security conditions at its two nuclear plants, following the Fukushima disaster in Japan.

Studies concluded that there was no risk of a similar accident happening in Brazil.
