Beene said in a statement that GP Petroleum Inc. and Petrodel Resources Limited, Glint Energy LLC and Exile Resources Inc. have submitted bids along with four Zambia-based companies.

“The Petroleum committee has begun analysing the bids and the minister of energy will announce the names of the successful bidders after the committee completes its work,” Beene said.

The winning bidders are required to demonstrate proven ability to raise the funds needed for the projects, and also show they have assets, machinery, technical expertise, equipment and tools required to explore, produce and sell oil.

The bids were initially planned to be closed in August 2009 but the government extended the tendering period to permit more companies to submit their bids.
