Under the contract, Siemens will supply one SGT6-5000F gas turbine, a SST-900 steam turbine, a SGen6-1000A generator, and one SGen6-100A generator.
The Siemens’ gas and steam turbines are expected to allow the combined cycle gas turbine facility to more efficiently utilize the fuel to generate electricity.
The facility will utilize the exhaust heat from the gas turbine to generate steam to power the steam turbine which would result in enhanced power-plant efficiency.
Scheduled to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2019, the natural gas-fired power plant will generate electricity required to power about 300,000 homes.

Estimated to cost approximately $680m, the Chinook facility is expected to generate up to 500 jobs during construction phase.
The Canadian engineering and construction company Burns & McDonnell was earlier selected to design and build the power plant.
SaskPower president and CEO Mike Marsh said earlier: “Chinook Power Station is going to play a major part in helping SaskPower continue to meet the growing demand for power in Saskatchewan.”
