“The prime minister welcomes both companies and the government will make a transparent bid and bring benefits to both sides, especially a lot of benefits to the Cambodian people,” said spokesman Eang Sophalleth.

“Many oil and gas companies have submitted applications [for Area IV],” he said.

It remains unclear whether Chevron and MOECO would plan to take on the offshore area together as they are already jointly developing offshore Block A and have reached agreements with Bangkok to join hands on part of Area IV, or Blocks B12A, B12B and B13 as they are known in Thailand.
