The refinery is expected to have production capacity of 50,000 barrels-a-day in the medium term and will be doubled once Uganda reaches full scale production, in the next six to seven years.
“The government is in discussions with the licensed oil companies to consider using gas generation and an expanded Early Production Scheme to be implemented in the short to medium term,” the ministry said.
Uganda is planning to utilize gas generation to operate a 50 megawatt thermal unit to ease present power scarcity. Th present finds can facilitate Uganda to produce 100,000 barrels of oil a day for around 25 years.
