The 156 MW hydropower scheme entails constructing a 114m high roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam, an intake structure, a 3.2 km long headrace tunnel of 7.2 m diameter, a 16m diameter surge shaft and a powerhouse of 65m by 20m.

The hydropower project in Vietnam has been funded by Asian Development Bank.

The tasks of the Mott MacDonald include reviewing designs; providing technical advice and assistance with procurement; resettlement advice and monitoring; environmental management advice and monitoring; as well as construction supervision; and knowledge transfer.

Jack Meldrum, Mott MacDonald’s technical director said, “We are delighted to be selected on this important project. Vietnam has been experiencing a growth rate for electricity demand of over 15% per year. It has a hydropower potential of about 20,600 MW of which about 4,600 MW has been developed so far. The scheme will help to meet Vietnam’s increasing power demands, whilst reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.”
