The Pittsburg power plant, which can produce a total of 1,311MW of power, is located in Contra Costa County, about 40 miles east of San Francisco. The power plant is comprised of three units including Unit 5 that can generate 312MW, Unit 6 that can generate 317MW and Unit 7 that can generate 682MW.

The operations at the unit were closed on 18 June, 2009 due to planned and normal reasons. The other units at the Pittsburg power station remained operational.

One MW of power generated can reportedly serve approximately 700 homes in California.
