The planned thermal power plant at Dopaha would include three units with a capacity of 660MW each. Following a tariff-based bidding process, the plant would be constructed in private sector.

The UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has requested bids from consultants to conduct a feasibility study and a study for Comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (CEIA) and a detailed project report. The CEIA is to be conducted to get environmental clearance from the UP Pollution Control Board and the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest.

July 2, 2009, is the last day for receiving bids, and the proposal documents would also be opened on the same date.

Under the current Eleventh Five Year Plan, with the help of the private sector, the state government intends to enhance its power production capacity by 10,000 MW. Jaypee Group would also build two power plants in Allahabad district with a total capacity of 3,300 MW.

UP currently is facing massive power cuts due to huge demand-supply gap. The state’s daily demand for power lies around 9,000 MW, and its availability to supply, including import from several other sources, is approximately 6,500 Mw.
