The new PML areas comprises of Barmura, Manikya Nagar, Sonamura, Konaban, Agartala Dome, Trishna, Gojalia and Kunjaban fields, which were for the past few years under PEL. Under the oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948 (ORDA), PML is a statutory need for exploitation of oil and gas fields.

ONGC had informed earlier that mission six million (MSM) project will be executed in three phases and for the first phase, INR9.46 billion had already been approved. The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by 2012. Till 2007, the asset was having only 76.573 square kilometers PML region in Barmura, Rokhia, Agartala Dome and Konaban fields.

ONGC officials said that with addition of 933.13 square kilometers PML region, the company will have opportunity to work with optimal resources planning.

ONGC had drilled 134 wells in Tripura. Out of which, 68 wells produced gases while the company provides 1.5 million cubic meters to four power projects in the state per day for generation of 160 megawatt of electricity. ONGC also supplies pipeline gas to meet local requirements of 7,000 families in Agartala, brick kilns and industrial growth centers.
