The plant, which has a supply capacity of up to one billion cubic feet per day (bcf/day) of gas, is connected via the Brunswick pipeline to the network which supplies homes and industries in Canada and the northeast US, where Repsol and its partners already have supply contracts under competitive terms.
Repsol, with a 75% stake, is the operator of the plant and will supply the LNG to feed the terminal, corresponding to the total regasification capacity. In 2008, the company began marketing activities in the region of New England and the northeast US.
“The Canaport LNG Terminal commissioning demonstrates Repsol’s commitment to the LNG business and natural gas as the fuel of choice, for today and for the future,” said Antonio Brufau, chairman of Repsol. “The Canaport LNG project demonstrates our ability to carry out energy projects of great magnitude and complexity”.
Repsol is also carrying out an integrated LNG project in Peru, Peru LNG, another initiative in the strategic plan 2008-2012, which will allow gas to be brought to the west coast of the US from 2010.
