The facility will supply electricity to Gran Caracas, an urban area in the country which has approximately 4.5 million inhabitants. The power plant will be situated at around 40kilometres south of the capital, in Paz Castillo city (Miranda state).
The first gas turbine is expected to come into operation at the beginning of 2011. Also it is expected that the four turbines equipping the plant at the first stage of the project will come into commercial operation under a simple cycle basis during the second half 2011.
The Termocentro power plant will have two groups with a multi-axis configuration with two gas turbines and a steam one.
Siemens has been awarded the contract to supply turbines for the project.
