Sami Al Rushaid, chairman and managing director of KOC said the present oil production capacity of Kuwait was three million barrels a day but were pumping two million barrels due to the Opec obligations. We plan to increase our oil capacity by one million [barrels] to increase to four [million barrels] by 2020.

For power generation, Rushaid said Kuwait utilizes gas, diesel and fuel oil because of power plants’ specifications.

Rushaid said When there is shortage of power in summer we use crude oil. We have been exporting fuel oil not because the demand has been low domestically. It is because most of our power plants are not designed for burning fuel oil.
