The Iranian energy minister said that all government interests in the country’s energy sector will be privatized by March 2009, with around 80 power plants expected to be gradually divested to the private sector. The Iranian private sector reportedly accounts for 3,000MW of generation capacity.
Mr Fatih was quoted by the news source as saying that currently the privatization of only 10 power plants has been finalized, with the country’s ministry of finance and economic affairs along with the Iranian Privatization Organization to decide on the next step of the divestment process.
