The Budapest Business Journal reports that following the tight supplies seen last winter, Hungary wants greater storage capacity with which to limit the risk of a repeat this year.
The Hungarian Association of Hydrocarbon Stockpiling has set up a spin-off arm to oversee the submission of offers and, later, to award the contracts to build and then fill up the fields.
The facilities are hoped to be operational by 2010 with a capacity of 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas, the BBJ report says.
