GE’s OC4000 system will be used to control and protect the boiler, steam turbine and auxiliary devices for two 350MW units.

The OC4000 distributed control system (DCS) reportedly provides total plant control at a single level, combining a number of applications, ranging from plant-wide distributed control to stand-alone control and protection of specific assets, such as turbines or boilers.

The Huaneng Hainan East facility will have a generating capacity of approximately 4.2GW. The power plant will employ high-efficiency, energy-saving, emissions control systems, with the DCS providing overall control, and quick delivery and commissioning of cycle times.

The units will be manufactured at GE’s Shanghai facility and shipped to Hainan by the end of June 2008, with planned installation completion by August 30, 2008, and commercial operation in December 2008.

Brian Palmer, vice president of GE Energy’s optimization and control business, said: The order for the Huaneng Hainan East power plant is GE’s second contract with the Huaneng Group for a supercritical DCS unit.
