EnBW has said that the annual fuel rod replacement was carried out in addition to general testing and maintenance activities.
During the maintenance, approximately 1,200 additional employees of the manufacturer and special firms supported the maintenance team. The entire team reportedly performed more than 7,000 individual tasks.
The German utility has said that Unit-1 of the Philippsburg nuclear power plant is a boiling water reactor with a capacity of 926MW. The plant has been in operation since 1979 and has produced over seven billion kilowatt hours of power in 2007.
