The wind farm currently has an installed capacity of 13 megawatts. Consent has been granted for the development of an additional 6 megawatts.
Including the existing wind farm at Tangy, SSE has 42 megawatts of operating capacity at three wind farms in Scotland. It is on course to complete the development of the Hadyard Hill wind farm in Ayrshire (120 megawatts) and a new plant at Fasnakyle hydro-electric power station (7 megawatts) before the end of the current financial year.
It has also recently received consent to develop a new large-scale hydro-electric power station at Glendoe which will have a capacity of around 100 megawatts.
Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE, said: I am pleased that we have been able to secure consent to extend our wind farm at Tangy and that our plans to invest in renewable energy are continuing to progress.
