Truck drivers and heavy vehicle owners have been on strike demanding a rise in their commission rate to 13% due to rising fuel prices. The Xinhua news agency reported that the government, however, has agreed only for a 5% hike.

The tanker truckers’ union federation has reportedly hinted at being interested in holding discussions with the government.

Reuters quoted Giorgos Tsavos, fuel truck union president, as saying: We have demanded an increase of our commission fee by 13%. We have no other way to fight if we want to save our businesses other than this strike.

Some stations have reportedly hiked the prices of unleaded petrol by about 35%.
