An agreement on nano technology has also been signed between the two countries as part of their wider science and technology cooperation.
The deals have been signed during the fifth Indo-UK Science and Innovation Council meeting held in London.

As a part the solar alliance, the countries have launched India-UK Networked Centre on Solar Energy linked to India’s renewable energy mission and UK’s Supergens program.

A part of the Research Councils UK Energy Program, the Supergen is a key initiative in SUstainable PowER GENeration, supply, transmission and storage.

India aims to generate 175GW of total power from renewable energy resources by 2022.

In order to contribute to these initiatives, the research will focus on systems level design and development involving solar energy generation, storage systems and grid integration for micro-grid systems.

Press trust of India reported Indian Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Minister Harsh Vardhan as saying to reporters at the Indian High Commission that: "The UK is among the most important countries where we have a very dynamic engagement.

"In India, we are taking up renewable energy in a big way, and in the solar area we will have an even more active engagement with the UK now."
