The wind turbines are to be erected as part of the Suwalki project in Masuria and the Tychowo project in Western Pomerania. These projects are due to come on stream by autumn 2009. The combined contract value for Siemens totals approximately E100 million.
In addition, the contracts awarded to Siemens also comprise the erection and commissioning of the plants. RWE Innogy has also agreed on a maintenance contract with Siemens for a period of five years.
RWE noted that 18 SWT2.3-93 type wind turbines will be deployed in the Suwalki wind farm, while 15 identical systems will be erected in the Tychowo wind farm. RWE Innogy is realizing the project in co-operation with Polish Energy Partners.
Both wind farms are reportedly located at sites with particularly favorable wind conditions. Together, they are expected to produce approximately 185,000MWh of electricity per year.
Kevin McCullough, COO of RWE Innogy, said: The erection of these two wind farms is an important step for us with a view to expanding our position in Poland. We are happy to have Siemens as a reliable and competent partner on our side.
