The Czech electricity utility had created a joint venture firm in 2007, with MOL, to build and operate power plants in Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The two power plants in Slovakia and Hungary are expected to have a capacity of 800MW each. Relative to its expansion in southeastern Europe, CEZ has noted that its international electricity generation and distribution operations have posted a 27% increase in annual operating profit for 2007, at $402.8 million.
