According to Angelo Reyes, energy secretary, the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in cars will help in boosting the government’s efforts to promote the utilization of alternative fuels in the transport industry.

The Manila Times maintained that the construction of the new facility follows the recent launch of CNG-fueled buses under a government program. In relation to this, the department of energy (DOE) has entered into partnership with Shell, as the company operates the Malampaya natural gas field.

Mr Reyes said: The usage of CNG not only serves as a step toward achieving energy security but it will also address the issue of climate change.
