The new facility, the 10th to be brought on stream by Iberdrola in Spain, adjoins the company’s first combined cycle plant, commissioned in mid-2002. It has been reportedly commissioned on schedule after undergoing tests.

At full capacity, the Castellon-4 plant can generate around five billion kWh per year, roughly equivalent to total demand in the Castellon province, and is expected to contribute to the energy autonomy of the Valencia region.

The new gas-fired plant is claimed to incorporate technology for protecting the environment, and its commissioning has enabled the company to shut down two older oil-burning generation units on the same site.
