Upon execution, these new contracts will increase Seadrill’s backlog to approximately $12 billion. Three separate drilling rig contracts have been awarded by Petrobras to Seadrill.
The sixth-generation West Eminence deepwater, semi-submersible drilling rig is under construction at Samsung’s shipyard in South Korea. The West Taurus drilling rig, another sixth-generation, deepwater semi-submersible unit is under construction at the Jurong shipyard in Singapore.
Both the West Eminence and West Taurus rigs are expected to be delivered during the fourth quarter 2008 and start-up of operations offshore Brazil is scheduled for the first quarter 2009.
The sixth-generation West Orion, deepwater, semi-submersible drilling rig is also under construction at the Jurong shipyard in Singapore. The rig is scheduled to be delivered during the second quarter 2010 and start-up of operations offshore Brazil is scheduled for the third quarter 2010.
