The company will be installing approximately 2,200 feet of new main in these areas, replacing water main that was installed in the 1940s. The aging water lines will be replaced with ductile iron pipes.

Beginning next week, New Jersey American Water’s qualified contractor South State, Inc. will begin working along Northmont Avenue, from Market Street to Station Avenue and Cedar Avenue, from Northmont Avenue to Hartka Avenue.

The project also includes replacing three fire hydrants and 36 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route. This investment will continue to improve water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.

Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of March with final street restoration being completed in the summer of 2018.

For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns a relikely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
