The two solar farms will be located in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. One of the projects is a 100MW solar project for a major Indian utility In Tamil Nadu. The other is a 60MW project for an independent power producer (IPP) in Karnataka.
Siemens Gamesa signed a contract with the utility to provide complete turnkey EPC solutions that include infrastructure development, engineering & design of the solar farm, procurement, supply of inverters, erection and commissioning of the photovoltaic solar farm.
As per the second contract signed with the IPP, the company will provide EPC solution whose scope includes engineering & design of the solar farm, procurement, supply of inverters, erection and commissioning of the photovoltaic solar farms. The two projects are expected to be commissioned this March.
Siemens Gamesa India chairman and managing director Ramesh Kymal said: "Today India is one of the most promising markets for renewable energy. The country has witnessed incremental growth in the solar segment in the last three years and we expect the momentum to increase in the coming years.
“Having firmed up our roots in solar business, we are fully geared to contribute to the government's target of 100GW of solar power by 2022."
In 2015, Siemens Gamesa India entered into solar business and has started offering a wide range of services including EPC solutions for MW scale solar projects.
In January 2018, Siemens Gamesa received orders totaling 326MW in the country from different customers. The projects range from 2MW to 60MW.
